During the last aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a significant number of waqf properties were unlawfully seized, particularly in the smaller Bosnian entity. The Waqf Directorate continues its legal battle for their restitution. Additionally, significant efforts have been made in identifying, registering, and compiling a comprehensive inventory of waqf properties in a unified waqf registry. One of the main objectives of this fund is to provide financial support for these activities.
Beyond protection, waqf assets sometimes require enhancement in terms of their economic value and profitability. This often involves physical improvements to the property to maximize its usefulness and significance.
Alongside waqf protection and enhancement, it is essential to promote and publicize waqfs to encourage new endowments and ensure transparency in the work of the Waqf Directorate. Every waqf-funded scholarship, donation, or development project should be presented to the public as a way to inspire charitable giving and solidarity. The topic of waqfs and endowments is rarely discussed in today's public sphere, and efforts must be made to change this. Funds from this source are also used to promote the importance of waqfs in the media while adhering to established media standards and advertising practices.
